Stop the racist SDL during the Edinburgh Fringe

On Saturday 17th August, in the middle of the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe, the racists from the Scottish Defence League (SDL) will be marching through Edinburgh city centre.

Unite Against Fascism are organisng a counter demo to oppose the racist SDL. We are encouraging the people of Edinburgh and the thousands of tourists that descend on our streets to join our protest and show the SDL they are not welcome.

UAF Counter Demo: Saturday 17 August - Chambers St, Edinburgh
Assemble: 12 noon
Speeches: 1.00pm
March to Parliament: 1.30pm

We will be doing a mass leafleting of festival goers on Friday 16th of August, meeting at noon at the Tron area of Edinburgh if you would like to help build the demo. Please email us if you want further details.

UAF Statement on racist SDL March

On Saturday 17 August the racists and nazis of the Scottish defence League
(SDL) plan to march through the centre of Edinburgh during the Festival.

Edinburgh is a multicultural city and the Festival is an international cultural celebration. The people of Edinburgh welcome citizens from around the world. Tourists want to soak up the city and Festival not be confronted by racists.

Racist and fascist groups are trying to use the tragic murder of soldier Lee Rigby to whip up racism and direct hatred at all Muslims.

We must not give an inch to those who try to judge an entire religion, race or nationality on the actions of a few.

We do not hold all Norwegian Christians responsible for the actions of fascist AAnders Breivik whose murderous rampage in 2011 left 77 people dead.
Across Europe there has been a rise in racist and nazi parties: the Front National in France, Jobbik in Hungary, Golden dawn in Greece etc. We should not allow racists and nazis to benefit from the economic crises when they try to use racism to build support in Edinburgh.

On Saturday 17 August join the anti-racist protest with people from all faith groups, community and trade union activists and all decent people.

As the Spanish anti-fascists said in the 1930s: no Pasaran! They Shall not Pass!
